The Whole Universe was Created for ?

The Whole Universe was Created for
The Holy Prophet
MUHAMMAD
صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم

The Prophet (Allah Bless him and grant him peace) said on the authority of 'Umar(RA):
"When Adam committed his mistake he said:
O my Lord, I am asking you to forgive me for the sake of Muhammad.
Allah said: O Adam, and how do you know about Muhammad whom I have not yet created? Adam replied, O my Lord, after You created me with your hand and breathed into me of Your Spirit, I raised my head and saw written on the heights of the Throne:

LA ILAHA ILLALLAH MUHAMMADUN RASULULLAH

I understood that You would
not place next to Your Name

but the Most Beloved One of Your creation.
Allah said:
O Adam, I have forgiven you, and were it not for Muhammad I would not have created you."

It was transmitted through many chains and was cited by:

Bayhaqi (in Dala'il al-nubuwwa),
Abu Nu'aym (in Dala'il al-nubuwwa),
al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak (2:615),
al-Tabarani in his Saghir (2:82, 207) with another chain containing sub-narrators unknown to Haythami as he stated in Majma' al-zawa'id (8:253), and Ibn 'Asakir on the authority of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, and most of these narrations were copied in Qastallani's al-Mawahib al-laduniyya (and al-Zarqani's Commentary 2:62).

This hadith is declared sound (sahih) by al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak (2:651), although he acknowledges Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, one of its sub-narrators, as weak.

However, when he mentions this hadith he says: "Its chain is sound, and it is the first hadith of Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam which I mention in this book";

al-Hakim
also declares sound another version through Ibn 'Abbas.
al-Bulqini declares this hadith sound in his Fatawa.

al-Subki confirms al-Hakim's authentication (in Shifa' al-siqam fi ziyarat khayr al-anam p. 134-135).

The hadith is also included by Qadi 'Iyad among the "sound and famous narrations" in al-Shifa, and he says that Abu Muhammad al-Makki and Abu al-Layth al-Samarqandi mention it; Qadi 'Iyad says:
"It is said that this hadith explains the verse: 'And Adam received words from his Lord and He relented towards him' (2:37)"; he continues to cite another very similar version through al-Ajurri (d. 360), about whom al-Qari said:
"al-Halabi said: This seems to be the Imam and guide Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn 'Abd Allah al-Baghdadi, the compiler of the books al-Shari'a devoted to the Sunna, al-Arba'un, and others.'"

This is confirmed by Ibn Taymiyya in his Qa'ida fi al-tawassul:

"It is related by Shaykh Abu Bakr al-Ajurri, in his book al-Shari'a
Ibn al-Jawzi also considers it sound (sahih) as he cites it in the first chapter of al-Wafa bi ahwal al-mustafa, in the introduction of which he says: "(In this book) I do not mix the sound hadith with the false," although he knew of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd's weakness as a narrator; he also mentions the version of Maysarat al-Fajr whereby the Prophet (Allah Bless him and grant him peace) says: "When satan deceived Adam and Eve, they repented and sought intercession to Allah with my name";

Imam Ibn al-Jawzi also says in the chapter concerning the Prophet's superiority over the other Prophets in the same book: "Part of the exposition of his superiority to other Prophets is the fact that Adam asked his Lord through the sanctity (hurmat) of Muhammad that He relent towards him, as we have already mentioned."

Imam Suyuti cites it in his Qur'anic commentary al-Durr al-manthur (2:37) and in al-Khasa'is al-kubra (1:12) and in al-Riyad al-aniqa fi sharh asma' khayr al-khaliqa (p. 49), where he says that Bayhaqi considers it sound; this is due to the fact that Bayhaqi said in the introduction to the Dala'il that he only included sound narrations in his book, although he also knew and explicitly mentions 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd's weakness;
Imam Ibn Kathir mentions it after Bayhaqi in al-Bidayat wa al-Nihaya (1:75, 1:180).
al-Haythami in Majma' al-zawa'id (8:253 #28870), al-Bayhaqi himself, and al-Qari in Sharh al- shifa' show that its chains have weakness in them.
However, the weakness of Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd was known by Ibn al-Jawzi, Subki, Bayhaqi, Hakim, and Abu Nu'aym, yet all these scholars retained this hadith for consideration in their books.

*In a study on the topic the Yemeni scholar ‘Abd al-Fattah al-Yafi’i observes that some of the above narrations are sound, but even if they were all weak al-Yafi’i argues, weak hadith can strengthen one another to the point of becoming hasan (acceptable).
--
→"Had it not been for the Prophet the world (heavens) would not have been"
→“You have asked me by virtue of the Prophet to pardon you. Surely I have pardoned you. Had it not been for the Prophet I would not have created you.”
→ “Allah Most High said: ‘by My Might and Glory, had it not been for you (Muhammad) I would not have created the heavens, and had it not been for you (Muhammad) I would not have created the earth.’”
→“Allah Blessed and Most High revealed to ‘Isa (alayhis Salam): ‘believe in Muhammad and instruct those among your followers who meet him to believe in him. Indeed, had it not been for Muhammad I would not have created Adam, and had it not been for Muhammad I would not have created the hellfire."
--
Sheikh ‘Abd al-Fattah also presents the argument that even if only a single weak hadith had been transmitted on this topic it would still be acceptable in establishing this virtue provided the hadith was not exceptionally weak.

Three scholars reject it ?

Ibn Taymiyya (Qa'ida jalila fi al-tawassul p. 89, 168-170) and his two students Ibn 'Abd al-Hadi (al-Sarim al-munki p. 61-63) and al-Dhahabi (Mizan al-i'tidal 2:504 and Talkhis al-mustadrak),

while 'Asqalani reports Ibn Hibban's saying that 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd was a forger (Lisan al-mizan 3:360, 3:442).

It is furthermore evident that Ibn Taymiyya considers the meaning of the creation of everything for the sake of the Prophet (Allah Bless him and grant him peace) as true and correct, as he declares in his Majmu'at al-fatawa in the volume on tasawwuf (11:95-97):

Muhammad is the Chief of the Children of Adam, the Best of Creation, the noblest of them in the sight of Allah. This is why some have said that "Allah created the Universe due to him," or that "Were it not for him, He would have neither created a Throne, nor a Footstool, nor a heaven, earth, sun or moon."
However, this is not a hadith on the authority of the Prophet... but it may be explained from a correct aspect...
Since the best of the righteous of the children of Adam is Muhammadcreating him was a desirable end of deep-seated purposeful wisdommore than for anyone else, and hence the completion of creation and the fulfilment of perfection was attained with Muhammad, may Allah Exalted bless him and grant him peace...

The Chief of the Children of Adam is Muhammad, may Allah Exalted bless him and grant him peace, Adam and his children being under his banner. He, may Allah Exalted bless him and grant him peace, said:
"Truly, I was written as the Seal of the Prophets with Allah, when Adam was going to-and-fro in his clay," i.e. that my prophethood was decreed and manifested when Adam was created but before the breathing of the Spirit into him, just as Allah decrees the livelihood, lifespan, deeds and misery or happiness of the slave when He creates the embryo but before the breathing of the Spirit into it.

Since man is the seal and last of all creation, and its microcosm, and since the best of man is thus the best of all creation absolutely, then Muhammad, being the Pupil of the Eye, the Axis of the Mill, and the Distributor to the Collective, is as it were the Ultimate Purpose from amongst all the purposes of creation.

Thus it cannot be denied to say that "Due to him all of this was created", or that "Were it not for him, all this would not have been created," so if statements like this are thus explained according to what the Book and the Sunna indicate, it is acceptable.
-
Its latter part is mentioned as a separate hadith in the wording:
"Were it not for Muhammad, I would not have created the spheres (al-aflak)."
al-'Ajluni said in Kashf al-khafa' (#2123):
"al-Saghani (d.650) said it is forged. I say: but its meaning is correct."
Similarly 'Ali al-Qari said in al-Asrar al-marfu'a (#754-755): "al-Saghani (in al-Ahadith al-mawdu'a p. 7) said: "It is forged," however, its meaning is sound (mi'nahu sahih), as
Daylami has narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet said:
"Gabriel came to me and said: O Muhammad! Were it not for you, Paradise would not have been created, and were it not for you, the Fire would not have been created."
And Ibn 'Asakir's narration has: And were it not for you, the world would not have been created."

--

The Hadith of Maysara (ra) is the following:

Narrated by Maysara (ra), I asked: "O Messenger of Allah, when were you [first] a Prophet?" He replied: "When Allah created the earth ‘Then turned He to the heaven, and fashioned it as seven heavens’(2:29), and created the Throne, He wrote on the leg of the Throne: "Muhammad the Messenger of Allah is the Seal of Prophets" (Muhammadun Rasûlullâhi Khâtamu al-Anbiyâ').
Then Allah created the Garden in which He made Adam and Hawwa' dwell, and He wrote my name on the gates, its tree-leaves, its domes and tents, at a time when Adam was still between the spirit and the body. When Allah Most High instilled life into him he looked at the Throne and saw my name, whereupon Allah informed him that 'He [Muhammad(s)] is the liege-lord of all your descendants.
When Satan deceived them both, they repented and sought intercession to Allah with my name." [Ibn Jawzi in Al Wafa bi Ahwaal lil Mustafa, Page No. 26, Published by Dar ul Kutab al Ilmiyyah]

Imam Muhammad bin Yusuf al-Salihi (student of Imam al-Hafidh As-Suyuti) said:
This hadith is narrated by Ibn Jawzi  and the chain of it is “STRONG” and there is nothing wrong in it [Subul al-Hadi wal Rashhad, Volume No.1, Page No. 86 – Dar ul Kutb al iLmiyyah]

Ibn Taymiyyah said:
فهذا الحديث يؤيد الذي قبله وهما كالتفسير للأحاديث الصحيحة
This hadith corresponds to the hadith mentioned before (i.e. hadith of Umar ibn ul Khattab) These two are like the explanations (tafsir) of the authentic (Sahih) ahadith [Majmua al Fatawa, 2/150]

Imam al Alawai al Makki said: This indicates that Ibn Taymiyya found the hadith sound enough to be considered a witness for other narrations (salih li al-istishhad wa al-i`tibar), because the forged (al-mawdu`) and the false (al-batil) are not taken as witness by the people of hadith
--
Tabarānī, Bayhaqī, Ibn-ul-Mundhir and Suyūtī narrated this tradition through ‘Umar bin al-Khattāb and ‘Alī that the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,
“Adam was just about to repent for his act of disobedience that he suddenly recalled in his state of anxiety that he had seen lā ilāha illallāhu Muhammad-ur-rasūlullāh (there is no god but Allah, Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger) inscribed on the Throne at the time of his birth.”

It obviously meant that the distinction the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) possesses is denied to others. That is the reason his name was inscribed along with Allah’s Own name. At this, he added these words of intermediation to his prayer for divine forgiveness:
(O Allah,) I beg Your forgiveness through the mediation of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).

The tradition related by Ibn-ul-Mundhir has the following words:
O Allah, I beg Your forgiveness through Your beloved and most honoured servant Muhammad and through his distinction You have blessed him with.

[Imam Suyuti cites in ad-Durr-ul-manthur, Volume:1,Page No. 60]

Following are some of the hadiths of the mention of the Prophet's name together with Allah on the Throne and in the heavens cited by the hadith masters, as related by Imam Suyuti in al-Khasa'is al-kubra (1:12-14)

In Ibn 'Asakir from Ka'b al-Ahbar:
Adam said to his son Sheeth: "O my son, you are my successor, therefore found my Successorship upon Godwariness and the Firm Rope, and every time you mention Allah, do mention next to His name the name of Muhammad, for I saw his name written on the leg of the Throne as I was between the spirit and the clay.

Then I circumambulated the heavens and I did not see in them a single spot except the name of Muhammad was written upon it, and when my Lord made me inhabit Paradise I saw in it neither palace nor room except the name of Muhammad was written on it.

I have seen his name written on the bosom of the wide-eyed maidens of Paradise, on the leaves of the reed-stalks and thickets of the Garden, on the leaves of the Tree of Bliss, on the leaves of the Lote-tree of the Farthermost Boundary, and upon the veils and between the eyes of the angels. Therefore, make frequent remembrance of him, for the angels remember him in every moment."

[…]

The Lord said,

Write:
la ilaha illAllah, Muhammadan Rasulullah.”

Thereupon the Pen exclaimed,
“Oh, what a beautiful, great name is that of Muhammad that it is to mentioned in one with Thy hallowed Name, oh Lord.”

The Lord then said,

Oh Pen, mind your manners!

This name is the name of My Beloved, from his Light I have created the Throne and the Pen and the Tablets; you, too, are created from his Light. Had it not been for him, I would not have created a single thing.”

---

Muhammedun Rasûlullâh

inscribed above the pillars of the Throne.
I therefore thought that You would only mention
Your name with the Most Beloved of Your creation.’
forgive you, Adam’, the Almighty declared,
‘and were it not for Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم
I surely would not have created you.’” (Hâkim, II, 672)

Ibn 'Adi and Ibn 'Asakir from Anas:
The Prophet (Allah Bless him and grant him peace) said:
"When I was taken up to heaven I saw written on the leg of the Throne:
“la ilaha illallah Muhammadun Rasulullah”

al-Bazzar from Ibn 'Umar:
The Prophet (Allah Bless him and grant him peace) said:
"When I was taken up to heaven I did not pass a heaven except I saw in it my name written:

Muhammadun Rasulullah."

Ibn 'Asakir from Jabir:
The Prophet (Allah Bless him and grant him peace) said:
"On the gate of Paradise is written:

la ilaha illallah Muhammadun Rasulullah."

Abu Nu'aym in al-Hilya from Ibn 'Abbas:
The Prophet(s) said: "There is not in all Paradise one tree with a single leaf but inscribed:

la ilaha illallah Muhammadun Rasulullah."

al-Hakim from Ibn 'Abbas, and he graded it sahih (sound):
"Allah revealed to 'Isa the following: Believe in Muhammad and order all those of your Community who see him to believe in him, for were it not for Muhammad I would not have created Adam, nor Paradise, nor the Fire. When I created the Throne upon the water it shuddered.
So I wrote upon it:
la ilaha illallah Muhammadun Rasulullah”

In Ibn 'Asakir from Jabir through Abu al-Zubayr:
"Between Adam's shoulders is written:
 “Muhammadun Rasulullah khatam al-nabiyyin."

Indeed everything was created for the sake of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and this is also proven from Quran when Quran states:

Behold!

Allah took the covenant of the Prophets, saying: "I give you a Book and Wisdom; then comes to you a Messenger, confirming what is with you; do ye believe in him and render him help."
Allah said: "Do ye agree, and take this my Covenant as binding on you?"
They said: "We agree." He said: "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses." [The Nobel Quran 3:81]

-
* This proves that even Prophethood of other Prophets and their books were dependent upon Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), hence It is proven directly from Quran that everything was created for the sake of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), therefore had Prophets not accepted Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) then Allah would not have become Witness over them and also not sent them!

Another Sahih hadith with

DIFFERENT CHAIN

Ibn Abbas (ra) narrates that Allah inspired Isa (a.s) saying
"O Isa, believe in Muhammad (salallaho alaihi wasalam), and whosoever form your Ummah finds him should believe in him, If I had not created Muhammad (salallaho alaihi wasalam) then I would not have created Adam, If not for him I would not have created the paradise and hell, When I made the throne on Water, it started to shake, I wrote La Ilaha IL Allah Muhammad ur Rasul Allah, due to which it became still

[Imam Hakim in Mustadrak ala Sahihayn, Volume No. 2, Page No. 609]

-

Imam al-Hakim (rah) after narrating it said:
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد
So there is no doubt left behind that Allah created everything for the sake of Prophet (Peace be upon him) and this is established from Quran, Sunnah and authentication of classical scholars.
This Hadith has “SAHIH CHAIN” [Mustadrak al-Hakim (2/609)]

Narrated from Ibn Abbas, Allah (SWT), inspired Isa (AS) to “Believe in Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and command those who live in his time from among your community to believe in him.
For were it not for Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم
I would not have created Adam; neither would
I have created Paradise and Hell. When
I created the Throne (Arsh) on water, it started rocking, coming to a standstill only after
I wrote over it Lâ ilâhe illâllâh Muhammedun Rasûlullâh”. (Hâkim, II, 672)
---

“Allah created the Universe due to him,”
or
“Were it not for him, He would have neither created a
Throne, nor a Footstool, nor a heaven, earth, sun or moon.”
--

Ibn Taymiyya explains
(Majmu’ 11:95):
"These are fabricated report attributed to the Prophet [s], but the meaning is sound if understood and used correctly (as has been the practice of the scholars)."

Hakim in Mustadrak and Abu as-Shaykh in Tabaqaat al-Isfahani’ in a report from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (radiyallahu ta'ala anhuma) that:

Allah revealed to Prophet ‘Isa ‘alaihis salam that:
O ‘Isa! Have faith (imaan) in Muhammad and order your ummah to do the same.
If Muhammad was not in existence, I would not have created Adam nor would I have made heaven or hell”.

[Also from (Shaykh Taqi ad-Din Subki in Shifa as-Siqam and Shaykh al-Islam al-Bulqini in his Fatawa and ibn Hajar in Afdal al-Qur’an).]

Dailami in Musnad al-Firdaus reports from
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (radiyallahu ta'ala anhuma) that:
The Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said that Jibra’il came to me and said that Allah says:
If you were not created, I would not have made the heaven or hell”.

Ibn Asakir reports from Salman al-Farsi (radiyallahu ta'ala anhu) that:
Jibra’il came to the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) and said that Allah says:
I have not created anyone who is more honoured to me that you.
I have created the world and all that is therein so that they may know the rank that you possess.
I would not have created the world if I had not created you”.

Imam Shihab ad-Din ibn Hajar ‘Asqalani says:
These reports say that if Muhammad (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) were not created then Allah would not have made the skies nor the Earth, neither heaven nor hell, neither the sun nor the moon”.

Imam Saif ad-Din Abu Ja’far bin Umar al-Humairi al-Hanafi in his
al-Durr al-tanzeem fee mawlid al-nabi al-kareem’ says:
When Allah made Adam He revealed to Adam to ask Him:
O Allah! Why have you made my kuniyah as ‘Abu Muhammad’?
Allah said: O Adam! Lift you head.
He lifted his head and saw the Noor (light) of the Prophet of Allah
(sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) on the ‘Arsh.
Adam asked: O Allah! Whose is this Noor?
Allah said: It is a Prophet from your progeny.
His name is Ahmad in the skies and Muhammad on the Earth.
If he were not created, I would not have created you or the skies and the Earth”.

Sayyidi Abul Husain Hamdooni Shadhili writes in his Qasida Daaliyah that:
The dear Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) is the essence of the universe and is the reason for all creation. Had he not have been, then nothing would have come into existence”.

Imam Sharaf ad-Din Abu Abdullah Muhammad Busiri
writes in his Qasida Burda that:

If it was not for the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallamthen the world would not exist”.

Imam Shaykh Ibrahim Baijuri
writes in the commentary of Imam Busiri’s poem:
If the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) had remained non-existent, then the universe would not have come to be.
Allah said to Adam: If Muhammad had not existed, I would not have created you. Adam is the father of all men and whatever is in the Earth has been created for man. So when Adam was created due to the existence of the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam), then it is obvious that the whole world was created due to him.
Hence, the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) is the cause and the reason for all existence.

Allama Khalid Azhari, commenting on the Burda, says:
“It is because of the Prophet of Allah (
sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) that the world was bought from non-existence to existence”.

Imam Mulla Ali Qari writes:
“If it were not for the blessing and the generosity of the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam), then the whole world would not have existed and apart from Allah, nothing would Exist.
--
Hadith is recorded in Musnad al-Firdaus on the authority of ibn ‘Abbas who said
Allah Most High said: ‘by My Might and Glory, had it not been for you (Muhammad) I would not have created the heavens, and had it not been for you (Muhammad) I would not have created the earth.’”

Imam Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari discusses this tradition in al-Asrar al-Marfu’ah and points out that although the tradition is fabricated the meaning is sound (1:295).
--
Allama Abul Ayash Abdul Ali Lakhnawi writes in hisFawatih al-Rahmoot Sharh Musallam al-Thuboot’ that: If the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) were not in existence, then the blessings of Allah would not have blessed the creation”.

Only an ignoramus will argue against the authenticity of the subject matter, that is, that the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) is the reason for creation.

It is due to him that Allah, the Almighty, created the Universe.

Indeed the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) is the reason for the creation of Adam ‘alaihis salam and the universe.

If the Beloved Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) was not in existence, then the ‘Arsh and Kursi, Lawh and Qalam, the Skies and the EarthHeaven and Hell, the trees and stones and all other creatures would not exist
And while the lafdh in question is not considered an authentic wording from the Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam), it is, as  Mullah al-Qari said,
"Though al-Saghanee says this is mawdu even so I say its meaning is saheeh (authentic) even if it is not a hadith.”

Majma` Fataawa Ibn Taymiyyah

Hadith of Law laak -
الحديث: لولاك
Almighty and Glorified - said to Adam:
"Were it not for Muhammad I would not have created you."

Ibn Rajab's two teachers, Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn al-Qayyim agree:

Ibn Taymiyya said in his Fatawa al-Kubra (11:95-97):

"Muhammad - Allah bless and greet him - is the Chief of the Children of Adam, the Best of Creation, the noblest of them in the sight of Allah. This is why some have said that "Allah created the Universe due to him," or that "Were it not for him, He would have neither created a Throne, nor a Footstool, nor a heaven, earth, sun or moon."
--

Ibn Taymiyya on

"If not for Muhammad I would not have created you [Adam]"

Ibn Taymiyya said in his book:

 "al-qaida al-jaleela fit- tawwasali wal-waseela"

with commentary of  Dr. Rabi'a bin Hadi 'Umayr al-Mudkhaliprofessor in the Islamic University of Madinah al-Munawwara, on page 166, para 493:
"...and like that is the hadith that is narrated by 'Abd ar-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam from his father from his grandfather from 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (ra), marfu'an and mawqufan 'alayh, that when Adam (as) has committed the sin, he said, 'O Lord! I ask you for the sake of Muhammad [bi haqqi Muhammad] to forgive me.' He subhanahu wa ta'ala said, 'How did you know Muhammad?' He said, 'because when you created me with Your Hands and blew into me from Your Spirit, I raised my head and I saw on the legs of Your Throne written, 'laa ilaha ill-Allah Muhammadu Rasulullah' so I knew You would not put next to your name except the one who is the most beloved to You.' He said, 'you have said the truth, O Adam, and if it were not for Muhammad, I would not have created you.'" [law laa Muhammadan maa khalaqtuk].
And Ibn Taymiyya continues:
"And this hadith is narrated by al-Haakim in his Mustadrak, from the hadith of 'Abdillah bin Muslim al-FiHree, from Isma'il bin Salama. And Haakim said, 'and it is the first hadith I have mentioned from 'Abdur-Rahman in this book. And Haakim says that it is sahih. And it is related by Shaykh Abu Bakr al-Aajuri, in the book 'ash-Shari'ah' mawqufan on 'Umar from hadith 'Abdillah bin Isma'il bin Abi Maryam mawqufan from 'Abdur Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam."

And we see here that Ibn Taymiyya is here presenting a hadith that was verified and certified by al-Haakim as authentic [sahih] and that is the hadith which related from Allah that "If not for Muhammad I would not have created you [O Adam]". And this opposes the many objections to such hadith like the similar hadith of Jaabir which is related about Allah that he said, "law laak maa khalaqtul khalq" - "If not for you [O Muhammad] I would not have created any of the Creation."

Ibn Taymiyya now goes into a lengthy discussion of the authenticity of the hadith which he just stated was authentic according to al-Haakim.

He attempts, through various arguments and demonstrations by way of similar cases, that this hadith is weak because al-Haakim is not as strong as some other scholars.

Let us examine here some of his arguments.

And on page 172, para 506 Ibn Taymiyya says, in support of his reasoning for weakening the sahih hadith of al-Haakim:
"Muslim has narrated that 'Allah has created soil on Saturday'. And some people who have more knowledge than him disputed that, like Yahya ibn Ma'een and Bukhari and others and they clarified that this was wrong and it was not the words of the Prophet (saws). And the proof is with them, because it has been proved by the Book and the Sunnah and the Consensus [ijma'a] that Allahu ta'ala has created the heavens and earth in six days and His last creation was Adam and his creation was on Friday. And this hadith that has been disagreed upon indicates that He created that in seven days. And it has been narrated a more authentic isnaad than this that the beginning of creation was on Sunday."
Regarding Ibn Taymiyya's Statement regarding the hadith of Yahya bin Ma'een
It is important to note that in the footnote on this paragraph, by Dr. Rabi'a bin Hadi 'Umayr al-Mudkhali, professor in the Islamic University of Madinah al-Munawwara, says, "I could not find the words of Yahya bin Ma'een about this hadith after I researched it."

The professor gives another footnote about this, saying:
"al-Bukhari in al-Taarikh al-Kabeer, 1/1/413/414, in the biography of Ayyub ibn Khalid, 'and Isma'il ibn Ummayya narrated from Ayyub ibn Khalid al-Ansaari from 'Abdullah ibn Raf'i from Abi Hurayrah (ra) from the Prophet (saws) said, "khalaq-Allahu at-turbata yawm as-sabt" - ["Allah created soil on Saturday"]'. And some of them relate it from Abi Hurayrah from Ka'b and that is more authentic"

Finally, Dr. Rabi`a bin Hadi `Umayr al-Mudkhali gives a third footnote, saying:
"I did not find a hadith marfu` that is an exact quote that the beginnning of creation was on Sunday. But there are aathar from Ibn `Abbas, Ibn Mas`ud and `Abdullah ibn Sallaam that have been mentioned by Ibn Jareer in his Tareekh, 1/47. And the athar of Ibn `Abbas and Ibn Mas`ud, in it there is Isma'il ibn Abdur Rahman as-Saddi, trustworthy? but he was accused of being Shi`i.
And regarding the athar of Ibn Sallaam, in its isnad Abu Ma`ashar, Najeeh bin Abdur Rahman as-Sindi is weak [da`eef] and in it 'Abdullah ibn Saalih. I did not know who he is, and I think he is the writer of Layth, and if he is then he is weak [da`eef]...."

Here we see that Ibn Taymiyya is building a house of cards in order to prove that the hadith of al-Haakim "law laa Muhammadan maa khalaqtuk" is weak, through a series of Byzantine arguments whose major foundation here is seen to be without support. And this is to be seen in a major scholar to be a tremendous weakness and serious indication of corruption, and Allah knows best.

We see here that Ibn Taymiyya states that Muslim was wrong based on the fact that "those more knowledgable than him" disputed it, starting with Yahya bin Ma'een.

SURPISE THOUGH IT MAY BE, we find that YAHYA BIN MA'EEN DID NOT SPEAK AGAINST THIS HADITH AT ALL!!!

Ibn Taymiyya then tries to show that A HADITH NARRATED BY Imam Muslim was rejected by other scholars, "more knowledgeable than him" and that the hadith Muslim narrated as sahih is not so, because Bukhari rejected it.

We THEN FIND that in fact, Bukhari NARRATED IT HIMSELF.

On the contrary, the "hadith" "that the beginning of creation was on Sunday" which Ibn Taymiyya tries to use to support his argument AGAINST the hadith "Allah created soil on Saturday" is in fact no hadith at all but is an athar with no verifiable authenticity! And these are the words of a Wahabi muhaqqiq!

Now in a further footnote to this discussion of Ibn Taymiyya, on the hadith of Muslim by the Professor Rabi`a in which he says,
"It was narrated by Muslim in the book 'description of hypocrites and the laws relating to them'/chapter 'the beginning of Creation' hadith 27, and Ahmad 2/327, and Ibn Ma'een in at-Tareekh, 3/52 and Bayhaqi in 'al-'asma was-siffaat', page 364."

Here again we see how Ibn Taymiyya was using misleading arguments against Imam Muslim.

Here it is clearly related by Ibn Ma`een, whereas Ibn Taymiyya said,
"And some people who have more knowledge than him disputed that, like Yahya ibn Ma`een..."

Subhanallah!

How much could a man have hated the Prophet (s) so much to go to such deceitful lengths to weaken a hadith which honors the Prophet (s) so magnificently, and showing that tawassul through him is acceptable!!!

Shaykh `Abd al-Qadir Gilani (ra)
(d. 561AH) in his book,
Sirr al-asrar fi ma yahtaju ilayh al-abrar
page,12-14 of the Lahore edition) said:

Know that since Allah first created the soul of Muhammad sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam from the light of His beauty, as He said: I created Muhammad from the light of My Face, and as the Prophet said: The first thing Allah created is my soul, and the first thing Allah created is the Pen, and the first thing Allah created is the intellect — what is meant by all this is one and the same thing, and that is the Haqiqa Muhammadiyya.

However, it was named a light because it is completely purified from darkness, as Allah said: There has come to you from Allah a Light and a manifest Book.
It was also named an intellect because it is the cause for the transmission of knowledge, and the pen is its medium in the world of letters.

The Muhammadan soul (al-ruh al-muhammadiyya) is therefore the quintessence of all created things and the first of them and their origin, as the

Prophet(s) said:
I am from Allah and the believers are from me, and Allah created all souls from me in the spiritual world and He did so in the best form. It is the name of the totality of mankind in that primordial world, and after its creation by four thousand years, Allah created the Throne from the light of Muhammad himself sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, and from it the rest of creation.”

This book has now been translated by Shaykh Tosun Bayrak al-Jerrahi as The Secret of Secrets (Cambridge: Islamic Texts Society, 1994).

Halabi (Ali ibn Burhan al-Din, d. 1044cites it as evidence in his Sira (1:31 of the Maktaba Islamiyya edition in Beirut) and then states: “It provides evidence that he is the root of everything that exists (in creation) and Allah knows best.”

A Narration comes to Mind:

The Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam once asked Hadrat Jibrael Alaihis Salam,
O Jibrael ! How old are you?”
 Jibrael al-Ameen Alaihis Salam replied,
O Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, I don’t know how old I am, but I do know that in the Fourth Covering (حجاب), I saw a star shine once every 70,000 years, and I saw this 72,000 times.”
The Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam then said,
و عزة ربي انا ذالك الكوكب
By the honour of Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala! I was that star.”

This narration is found without chain or sourcing in Shaykh Isma`il Haqqi’s Sufi Tafsir Ruh al-Bayan for Surat al-Tawba verse 9:128, and in the Sira Halabiyya (1351H Azhariyya edition with Dahlan Sira in the margin 1:36) where the author says he saw it in a book whose author he does not recall, entitled al-Tashrifaat fil-Khasa’is wal-Mu`jizaat.
The Moroccan hadith scholar Shaykh `Abd Allah al-Ghumari in his Murshid al-Haa’ir declares it a forgery.
However, the veracity of its meaning is supported by several Qur’anic verses and hadiths, such as:
The Verse of Light (24:35) where the two earliest Tafsirs — among others — concur that the “Shimmering Star” (kawkabun durriyyun) refers to the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) cf. Tafsirs of Muqatil and al-Tabari.
{and I am the first of those who surrender} (6:163).
Ruzbahan Baqli (d. 606/1210) said of this verse in his Tafsir: “It is an indication of the primacy (taqaddum) of his spirit and his substance over everything else and everyone else in existence in the Divine Presence.”
Al-Qurtubi said in his Tafsir: “{and I am the first of those who surrender} because there is no one who is first other than Muhammad—upon him blessings and peace. If someone asks: Are not Ibrahim and the Prophets before him? We reply that he comes first before them because of his primacy in creation over them.”
I was the first of the Prophets to be created and the last one to be sent.” Narrated from Abu Hurayra by Tammam al-Razi in his Fawa’id (4:207 §1399); al-Tabarani in Musnad al-Shamiyyin (4:34-35 §2662); and Abu Nu`aym in Dala’il al-Nubuwwa (p. 42 §3); also narrated mursal from Qatada by al-Tabari in his Tafsir (sub 33:7) and with the wording “the first of the people” by Ibn Sa`d in his Tabaqat (1:124).
{And when We exacted a covenant from the Prophets, and from you (O Muhammad) and from Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and `Isa son of Maryam. We took from them a solemn covenant} (33:7).
Al-Qurtubi said: “Qatada said that the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) said: ‘I was the first of the Prophets to be created and the last one to be sent;’ and this is the reason he was mentioned first in this verse before Nuh and others.”
The Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) himself gave the above explanation by pronouncing the above hadith after reciting verse 33:7. Then he added: “Thus the sequence began with me ahead of them” (Ibn Abi Hatim, Tafsir 10:3116, sub Q 33:7)
And Allah knows best.
