Question: In the area where I live there is a masjid where there is a group who follow the way of the Soofiyyah. Is it permissible to pray in this masjid?

Response: You should not pray with the Soofiyyah in their masjid, and you must beware of their companionship and mixing with them in case you are afflicted with what they have been afflicted with. So perform your prayers in another msajid where they uphold the Sunnah and are steadfast upon it.
And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.

Sh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked: What is the ruling on praying behind an imam from the Bareilawi sect, who believes that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is alive and present and can see us?
He replied: " If they believe that, then they have gone against ijmaa‘ (consensus of the ummah), and if they seek his help, then that is shirk, so it is not permissible to pray behind them." [Thamaraat at-Tadween, p. 8 ]
The Scholars of the Standing Committee said:
With regard to praying behind an innovator, if his bid’ah amounts to shirk, such as calling upon someone other than Allaah, making vows to someone other than Allaah, or believing that their shaykhs possess attributes that belong to Allaah alone – such as perfect knowledge, knowledge of the unseen or the power to influence events – then prayers offered behind them are not valid.
If their bid’ah does not amount to shirk, such as reciting dhikrs that were narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), but doing that in unison and swaying from side to side, then prayers offered behind them are valid, but the Muslim should look for an imam to pray behind who is not a follower of innovation, because that will increase his reward and is farther removed from evil.
And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.

Q1- I read Salaat behind a Barelvi Imam who believes that prophet S.A.W is Haazir Naazir and Alimul Ghaib is it compulsory to repeat the Salaat prayed behind the barelvi Imam?
Q2- If there is a barelvi masjid in the locality then should a person pray Salaat behind the barelvi Imam in the masjid or should he pray at home?
Q3-Is Salaat valid behind a barelvi Imam who believes prophet S.A.W as alimul ghaib ,Haazir Naazir as this is shirk?
Answer: Fatwaa no. 118/04
1. To repeat the Salaah will be compulsory, since the qualities of Haazir and Naazir are the exclusive attributes of Allah Ta’ala.

2. If the Imam has such beliefs which do not negate Imaan, then performing Salaah behind this Imam will be correct. However, if he has incorrect beliefs then one should perform Salaah in another Masjid. If this is not possible, then one should perform Salaah at home.
3. Yes, the Salaah will be rendered as invalid.

(1) Is it permissible to pray behind barelwi imam?
Answer: 318 - 07 May, 2007 (Fatwa: 620=410/H)
(1) If he is only Bidati and does not hold beliefs that lead one to Kufr (infidelity) then salah will be valid behind him but will be makrooh (undesirable).
(2) The Barelvi people are bent to twist and distort the texts, written by Ulama of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jamaah Ulama of Deoband, and regard them as kafir.
While the Ulama of Deoband strictly avoid to term anyone as kafir and try as much as possible to give a good explanation to every act or saying of a Muslim.
The Barelvis consider it compulsory to adopt the anti-sunnat issues as symbol of their sect, while the Ulama of Deoband reject all these innovations.

For example, he debated two Deobandis, Ahmad Ali Vabacharan and Ghulamullah Khan, and as per Mawlana Ghulam Mahmud Panpalawi, the student of Pir Meher Ali Shah, he endorsed Imam Ahmad Raza Khan's fatwa against the Deobandi school's four leaders (i.e. Ashraf `Ali al-Thanwi, Rashid Ahmad al-Gangohi, Khalil al-Ambethawi al-Saharanpuri, and Qasim al-Nanautawi)
Interestingly enough, the Deobandis still hold Pir Meher Ali Shah in high regard in spite of Pir Sahib's writing against him. They hold the claim that Pir Sahib did not write against the Deobandis, the opposite which is stated by Pir Meher Ali Shah's own grandson, The late Pir Abu Nizamuddin Mawlana Sayyid Nasiruddin Naseer Shah Golrawi, who states that he was told by Mawlana Abdus Shakur Hazarawi as well as Mawlana Muhib un-Nabi that he did not hold all Deobandis to be disbelievers unless they had committed acts of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad, which is an indirect reference towards Imam Ahmad Raza Khan's edict against the four Deobandis who had committed insults against the Prophet Muhammad
" However, the above contradicts the famous incident in Rawalpindi, narrated as follows:
It is narrated in Dharb-i-Shamshir that once in Salar Gah, Rawalpindi, an argument started between Molwi Bahadarudin [imam of local masjid] and Muhammad Ashraf Khan regarding the takfir of Ulama of Deoband. This argument led to a debate and both sides gathered on the fixed date for the debate. Right before the debate, elders of the town suggested that instead of debating both sides should accept Pir Mahr Ali Shah as the judge. Both sides agreed to this and went to Pir Mahr Ali Shah and presented the situation as follow,
Ashraf Khan says that if any imam of masjid doesn't consider these five individuals:
- Mawlana Shah Ismail Shahid
- Mawlana Qasim Nanotwi
- Mawlana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi
- Mawlana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri
- Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanwi
to be kafir, salah is not valid behind him.
Pir Mahr Ali Shah was angered by this statement and said:
"If these five mashaikh are not Muslim then there is no Muslim in the World and whoever does their takfir, salah is not valid behind him."
This was also written by Mufti Qari Ghulam Muhammad of Golra Sharif."

Some people say that all mosques are the ‘houses of Allah’ and that they all deserve the same respect.
There are some mosques that do not deserve any respect at all, and in fact Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once actually ordered the Blessed Sahaabah to burn and demolish a Masjid known as Masjid-e-Diraar.
To learn more about the incident involving Masjid-e-Diraar, we turn to the Glorious Qur’an, in which Allah Ta’ala states,
“And those who have built a mosque in order to commit mischief and spread infidelity and to cause dissension among Muslims, and as an ambush for him who is already against Allah and His Messenger from before. And they will surely swear that we desired only good. And Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars.” [Surah 9, Verse 107]
Some hypocrites (Munaafiqeen) of Madina Munawwarah built a mosque called Masjid-e-Diraar near Masjid-e-Quba with the intention of decreasing the congregation at this blessed mosque:
Also, their evil intention was that whenever the sinful priest Abu Amir came secretly to Madina Shareef he would inwardly plot against the Muslims, but outwardly tell Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) that we have built this mosque for the convenience of the old and the sick. He even requested Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to perform one Salaah in it to bless the mosque. Almighty Allah stopped His Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) from doing this!
The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then gave the order to demolish this mosque. According to his command it was demolished and burnt!!!
