Keepers of the Nobel Sandals

Among the matters of external appearance, the Prophet’s noble sandals received particular attention, perhaps because of what his followers felt of utmost love and humility for the person of their beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), such that they saw themselves as less than his sandals.

The Companions and the Noble Sandals

The attention given to the noble sandals is not an innovated matter. Rather, the first generations, from the Companions of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), were the first to give them attention and importance, such that some of them were known to have distinguished themselves with serving the noble sandals.

It has been reported by Ibn Sa`d that Anas (Allah be well pleased with him) was the keeper of the sandals of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace).

And

Imam al-Sâlihî reported in his work, Subul al-Huda wa’l Rashâd (8:318) that `Abd Allâh ibn Mas`ûd (Allah be pleased with him) used to get up as soon as the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) sat down, and would take off the latter’s sandals, and place them under his own arms. Then, when the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) would get up, he would put them on him. Many other narrations have been transmitted from the Companions giving exact descriptions of the noble sandals of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).

The Attention Given by the Imams and Scholars to the Noble Sandals

A number of Imams gave the noble sandals of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) particular attention, authoring complete works in describing and praising them, and gathering that which was transmitted regarding this.

Among them were:

Imam Abu Ishâq Ibrahîm ibn Muhammad ibn Khalaf al-Sullamî, famous as Ibn al-Hâjj, who collected that which many poets and authors had written in praise of the sandals.
Imam and hadith master Abû al-Yumn `Abd al-Samad ibn `Abd al-Wahhâb Ibn `Asâkir of Damascus (686 AH), who was buried in the Baqî` cemetery [in Madina], authored a treatise called A Sketch of the Sandal of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) (Timthâlu Na`l al-Nabiyy), which is published.

The great mujtahid Imam Sirâj al-Dîn `Umar ibn Raslân al-Bulqînî.

Imam Shams al-Dîn Muhammad ibn `Îsa al-Muqri’, whose book was titled:
A Joy For Eyes By Verifying The Matter of The Sandals (Qurrat al-`Aynayn fî Tahqîq Amr al-Na`layn)

Imam Abû al-`Abbâs al-Maqqarî of Tilmisân, who died in Egypt, wrote the most expansive work on the issue, An Opening From The Most High In Praising The Sandals (Fath al-Muta`âl fî Madh al-Ni`âl). This work is published, and has three abridgements. The first is by Radiyy al-Dîn Abu al-Khayr al-Qâdirî; the second by Abû al-Hasan al-Dimintî; and the third by Shaykh Yûsuf al-Nabahânî (Allah have mercy on them all).

The author of the work Collected Pearls from the Bewildering Design and the Unique Exposition on the Characteristics of the Depiction of the Sandals of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) ( al-La’ali’ al-Majmû`a Min Bâhir al-Nizâm wa Bâri` al-Kalâm fî Sifat Mithâl Na`li Rasûl Allâh), who was one of the scholars of Cordoba, as mentioned by the historian Abû Sâlim al-`Ayyâshî in his famous travelogue.

The Place of the Depiction of the Noble Sandals and their Baraka

The depiction of the noble Prophetic sandals has had a special place in the hearts of Muslims since it points to one of the needs of their tremendous Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and since it inspires in them the utmost humility towards his high rank (Allah bless him and give him peace). Because of this, they took care to record this depiction, and to draw it, and they sometimes even placed it under their turbans, to feel their complete subservience to the tremendousness of this most noble Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace). They also hung this depiction in their houses, seeking baraka from it.

Writers and poets wrote eloquently in praise of the noble sandals and in describing the feelings of ecstatic love for their wearer (Allah bless him and give him peace).
Imam Abû al-`Abbâs gathered a significant amount of these writing in his aforementioned work, as well as in his treatise Azhâr al-Riyâd

May the best of blessings and peace be upon the owner of these blessed sandals.

Honouring the Blessed Sandals as a Relic (Tabarruk)

Imam Nawawi states in his commentary of Sahih Muslim,
"It is recommended to seek blessings through the relics of the righteous and their clothes (istihbab al-tabarruk bi aathaar al-salihin wa thiyabihim)."
[Sharh Sahih Muslim, Book 37, Chapter 2, No. 10]

The Muslim Ummah has always been unparalleled in its love for our Leader and Beloved Prophet(s), since the time of the most honourable Companions, may Allah be pleased with them all. This devotion has resulted in the emulation of his practices, known as the Sunnah, and also extends to revering places, statements and items associated with him. Through these, we are reminded of his perfect example and from this remembrance, we derive great blessings.

Indeed regarding this remembrance, the Qur’an addresses the Beloved Prophet saying,
Wara fa’na laka zikrak,” meaning,And we exalted for you your remembrance.[Qur’an 94:4]

The Companion and Salaf  Honour the Blessed Sandals

Imam Qastalani and Imam Salihi, who was a student of Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti, both mention that Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Masud, may Allah be pleased with him, was one of the servants of the Beloved Prophet whose sandals he would cary. When the Prophet rose, Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Masud would put the blessed sandals on his sacred feet, and when the Prophet sat down, Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Masud would carry the blessed sandals in his arms until he rose again.
[Imam Qastalani’s Mawahib al-Laduniyya; Imam Salihi’s Subul al-Huda wal Rashad]

Also reported by Imam Qastalani that, Sayyidina Abu Ishaq al-Zuhri who was one of the Tabi’een, reports that Sayyidina Qasim ibn Muhammad (ibn Abu Bakr Siddiq) said, “Of the proven blessing of the likeness of the Prophet's sandal is that, whoever has it in his possession for tabarruk will be safeguarded by it from the sedition of rebels and the mastery of enemies, and it will be a barrier against every devil and the evil eye of the envious. If a pregnant woman holds it in her right hand during labour, her delivery will be easier by Allah's Power.”

Mulla Ali Qari mentions in his commentary on Shama’il Tirmidhi, that the great Imam Muhyuddin ibn Arabi said the sandals are part of the attire of Prophets. He also mentioned that one of the names of the Beloved Prophet in the ancient books is Sahib al-naalayn or "The Wearer of the Sandals."

Imam ibn Asakir wrote an entire volume on the image of the blessed sandals entitled Timthalu Naal al-Nabiyy or A Sketch of the Sandal of the Prophet.

Imam Jazuli, the author of the famous Dala’il al-Khayrat, includes the image of the blessed sandal in his Dala’il al-Khayrat out of reverence for it and as a means of seeking Allah’s blessings.

Out of this same love and devotion, Imam al-Zarqani states, “If possible, kiss the dust that has been touched by the sandals, otherwise, kiss an image of the sandals.[Sharh al-Zarqani ‘ala’l Mawahib, 5:48]

The above reports are all crystal clear demonstrations of love and submission from the Salaf towards the Beloved Prophet, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, through honouring the depiction of his blessed Naalayn Paak.

Imam Qastalani narrates a beautiful verse in honour of the blessed sandals, composed by Imam Qurtubi who says: “I concentrated on the waves of light that emanated from the blessed sandals and as long as we bow down before them (in humility), we will be honoured. Hence, keep it above the head as it is in reality a crown, though apparently a sandal.” [al-Mawahib al-Ladunniya, 2:470]

The great Mujaddid, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Barelwi, describes the status and honour achieved by one who is blessed by the Naalayn Paak in the following couplet:
Jisey Teri Saf-e-Niyal se miley do niwaley nawal se
Wo bana ke uske ugaal se bhari Saltanat ka udhaar hai
Meaning: The one who received two morsels from where you (O Prophet) leave your sandals,
Becomes so great, that an entire Kingdom would survive on his mere saliva!

Without a doubt, we are of the same Aqeeda (belief) with which Imam Yusuf Nabhani states:
“Verily I serve the image of the Sandal of Mustafa
So that I may live in both worlds under its protection.”

Imam Yusuf al-Nabahani’s

Sa‘adat al-darayn fi al-salat ‘ala Sayyid al-kawnayn (Felicity in the Two Abodes Through Prayers upon the Master of the Two Realms – may Allah bless him and grant him peace), details forty(40) tried and true methods for seeing the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in a dream. Gleaned from the works of the early and later spiritual masters, this collection is a veritable treasury of Gnostic expressions of prophetic love and longing. Each supplication is presented in its original Arabic along with its translation and transliteration.

Imam Yusuf b. Isma‘il al-Nabahani (1265–1350 AH), hadith scholar, Sufi, jurist, judge, and biographer, was born in Beirut, Lebanon. A prolific author, al-Nabahani left behind a staggering collection of works in hadith, fiqh, theology, and most famously, poetry and prose in praise of our master Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).

Al-Nabahani was a paragon of prophetic love (‘ishq) and his works continue to exercise a profound influence on popular Muslim spirituality.

Shaykh Yusuf Al Nabahani in his book Sa'adat Al Darayn says:
"One can see the Messenger of Allah in a dream by carrying a drawing of the Prophet's sandal. Other scholars have said that by carrying a picture of the sandal and adhering to it, then they will certainly visit the Messenger of Allah , or see him in a dream."

The Sandal of the Prophet, peace be upon him, in Morocco:

Muhammad b. Jaʿfar Kattānī (d.1345AH/1927CE) writes in his book Salwah al-Anfas:

In the Andalus district in the Old City of Fez, there is a long street by the name of Masmūdah. In this neighbourhood there is a mosque by the name ‘the Mosque of Sīdī Darrās’.
Sīdī Darrās, who is buried outside the walls of the Futū, was the teacher of the famous Bin Abī Zayd al-Qayrawānī who composed the text Rislālah in Mālikī Law, which is still taught today. His mosque was believed to have the most accurate prayer niche directed towards Mecca in the city. Just across from the mosque in a street called Gazīrah, there is a house that belonged to the ahrī aqallī family who were in possession of what was believed to be a pair of the sandals of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Every year just before the month of Rabīʿ Awwal, the family would display the sandals in their home to the public so that they could take blessing from it. This practice continued on until the family sold the home.

In the book Nashr al-Mathānī by Muhammad b. ayyib (d. 1187 AH/1773CE), he mentioned that the sandal was placed in an ornamented wooden box and kept in a high place in the house in one of the upper rooms.

The sandal has a certificate in which a number of prestigious scholars attested to its authenticity. In the year 1067 AH/1657CE, Abd al-Qādir al-Fāsī and a number of other prestigious scholars visited the sandals and measured them according to its descriptions mentioned in the religious sources.

In the year 1114 AH/1702CE, the Sultan Moulay Ismāʿīl demanded the inhabitants of Fez payback their debts so the people of the city went to the ahrī family, who possessed the sandal, and begged them to do with it before the Sultan and ask him for the sake of the sandal to forgo the debt. The family agreed and took it before the Sultan and gave it to him, which he subsequently placed in his palace in Meknes to take blessing from it. He built a dome over it which is still know today which is called the dome of the Sandal. It remained in his possession until he passed away, but the people do not know its whereabouts after that.’

The honourable scholar Muhammad Tāwdī b. Sūdah (d. 1209 AH/1794CE) mentions that the family only gave the Sultan one of the sandals and hid the other from him, keeping it a secret from the people from then on. Muhammad Tāwdī b. Sūdah, who has a commentary on Bukhārī and was the most respected scholar in Morocco of his time, said:

‘There is a home in Masmūdah of noble qualities and equity,
Therein my eyes fell upon the sandal of the Chosen One,
I pressed my lips against it until I felt satiated and said,
‘My soul, find delight. Now have you had enough?’ It replied back to me, ‘Indeed I have.’

He wrote: ‘God indeed did bless me, despite my worthlessness and lack of adherence to the way of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his words, by visiting one of the sandals of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and I wiped it over my face and eyes in the last ten days of the year 1200 AH...’

In the year 1144 AH/1731CE, one of the scholars described his visit and how he took the blessed sandal and rubbed it over his upper half and asked God all-Mighty to fulfill his needs through the blessings of the sandal and he remarked how his prayer was answered soon after.

Some of the scholars have questioned the authenticity of the sandal as they believed time would have eroded the sandal by now. They also argued that scholars such as Sakhāwī and ʿĪrāqī never made mention of this sandal in the possession of the ahrī aqallī family even though they were contemporaries and such a thing would not have been unknown to them. They also state that of the seven templates we know of the sandal, the one in the possession of the ahrī aqallī family is smaller than all of them.

Muhammad b. Ja
ʿfar Kattānī argues:
• Many respectable scholars attested to its authenticity and such luminaries would not do so if they were not certain. Just because certain scholars did not make mention of it does not disqualify it because many scholars present at the time who were just as well respected testified to its authenticity
• God forbade the bodies of the Prophets from decomposing and thus it is not far-fetched that He could have honoured certain artefacts of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, by preventing them from decomposing too.
• As long as leather is protected from water and sunlight it will not completely deteriorate.

Muhammad b. Jaʿfar Kattānī cites many examples of paper he has seen which are over seven hundred years old yet they are still intact. If this is the case with paper than what of leather which is far more durable?

Deobandiyyah

Ashraf `Alî al-Tahânawî titled a chapter:
Nayl al-Shifâ' bi-Na`l al-Mustafâ ("Obtaining Remedy through the Sandals of the Elect One - Allâh bless and greet him") in his book: Zâd al-Saîd ("Provision for the Fortunate").

Muhammed Zakariyyâ Kandihlawî said in his English translation of Imâm al-Tirmidhî's foundational work al-Shamâ'il al-Nabawiyya wal-Khas.â'il al-Mustafawiyya ("The Prophetic Traits and Muhammadan Features"):

"Mawlânâ Ashraf Alî Thanwî Sâhib has written in his book Zâdus-Saîd a detailed treatise on the barakât [blessings] and virtues of the shoes of Rasûlullâh SallAllâhu`alayhi wasallam. Those interested in this should read that book [which is available in English].
In short, it may be said that it [the Prophet's - Allâh bless and greet him - sandal] has countless qualities.
The Ulema have experienced it many a time.
One is blessed [through it] by seeing Rasûl Allâh SallAllâhu alayhi wasallam in one's dreams; one gains safety from oppressors and every heartfelt desire is attained. Every object is fulfilled by its tawassul. The method of tawassul [using a means] is also mentioned therein."

Quote: “ Hakim al-Ummah Mawlana Thanwi wrote Nayl al-Shifa bi Ni’al al-Mustafa and it had an image of sandals

Now Note: 😈 Quote:

" But Mawlana Thanwi made ruju after he had a discussion on this topic with Mufti Azam Hind Kifayat Allah Dahalwi via letters.

😈

Mufti Hind writes in Kifayat al-Mufti that first of all it not even certain that these pictures are authentic and to treat a picture like a real thing is not proven from Shari’ah. Other wise what will stop others from making pictures of feet, hands, qamisjubba, etc?

Mawlana Thanwi agreed with the points raised  😈  by Mufti Sahib that this can lead to ghuluw and fitna among laymen.

Mawlana Thanwi clearly mentioned that I retract from this booklet. 😐

Even if some scholars did treat these pictures with deep love then it was out of their immense love of Holy Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) but then again it is not a proof (hujjah) in Shari’ah and can’t become a basis of any act. This discussion between the two is recorded in Kifayat al-Mufti and Imdad al-Fatawa.

As far as Shaykh al-Hadith Mawlana Zakariyya then he was not aware 😀of retraction of Mawlana Thanwi or he would not have included the image in Fazail Hajj. . . 😕

Islahi Khutbat of Mufti Taqi Usmani also had the image of sandals on authority of Hakim al-Ummah. 😃
Mawlana Abd al-Qudus Tirmidhi, son of Mufti Abd al-Shakur Tirmidhi  wrote to the compiler of Islahi Khutbat with scans of Imdad al-Fatawa and suggested that it should be removed. 😡

Then Mufti Abd al-Shakur Tirmidhi himself talked to Mufti Taqi Usmani regarding this matter and on instructions of Mufti Taqi it was taken out from the next editions. 😈

There is a fatwa from Dar al-Ulum Deoband
dated 11-25-1417 by Mufti Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri, Mufti Muhammad Zafir al-Din and Mufti Nizam al-Din that these pictures of sandals or to kiss these for blessings have no basis.

That is why ‘Allamah Qadi Mazhar Hussain (khalifa majaz of Shaykh al-Islam Mawlana Madani /may Allah have mercy on them) writes that it is not allowed for anyone who considers himself a Deobandi to publish images of sandals as Mawlana Thanwi had stopped from it.”

Wahhabi/Salafi say: 😈
“…touching the doors, walls, windows, etc, of al-Masjid al-Haraam or al-Masjid al-Nabawi is bid’ah (reprehensible innovation) for which there is no basis. This must not be done, because acts of worship are tawqeefi (not subject to personal opinion) and it is not permissible to do any acts of worship except those which are approved by sharee’ah.”

In Today's era, the degraders of Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) deny the shaf'at (Blessing) of Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in different forms. Not only is the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) source of shaf'at himself, but also the relics associated with him (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) are Shaf'at for Ummah.  The Sahaba (R.A) during his (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) lifetime, and also after his passing away did things like washing his cloak to seek cure, wiping his Wudhu water over their faces and chests, even fighting over his left over wudhu water, considering his hair as most dear to everything that is in the world, touching his pulpit and seeking barakah, etc...

It was usual practice of the Companions to preserve relics of Prophet (
صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and to draw benefits and blessings out of them. This proves that they offered them to Allah as instruments of mediation when they needed His help and assistance. Allah Himself has made reference to the relics of the Prophets in the Holy Qur’ān.

Nobel Quran :

Translation: And (further) their Prophet said to them: "A Sign of his authority is that there shall come to you the Ark of the covenant, with (an assurance) therein of security from your Lord, and the relics left by the family of Moses and the family of Aaron, carried by angels. In this is a symbol for you if ye indeed have faith." [Quran 2:248]

Tafsir al-Jalalayn: And their prophet said to them, after they had demanded a sign of his kingship: ‘The sign of his kingship is that there will come to you the Ark, a chest containing the images of the prophets, which God sent down to Adam, and which was handed down to them [sc. the Israelites], until the Amalekites seized it from them in battle. They used to commence fighting invoking it before their enemy and marching behind it, as well as experience peacefulness in its presence as God says: therein is a Spirit of Peace, reassurance for your hearts, from your Lord, and a remnant of what the folk of Moses and the folk of Aaron left behind, which were Moses’s pair of sandals and his staff, Aaron’s turban, a measure (qafīz) of the manna that used to come down on them, and the pieces of the broken tablets, the angels bearing it (tahmiluhu l-malā’ikatu, the circumstantial qualifier referring to the subject of the verb ya’tiyakum, ‘there will come to’). Surely in that shall be a sign for you, of his kingship, if you are believers’. The angels bore it between the earth and the sky while they gazed at it, until finally they placed it before Saul. They then acknowledged his kingship and hastened to enlist in the [holy] struggle, and he chose seventy thousand of their young men.

Nobel Quran

Translation: "Go with this my shirt, and cast it over the face of my father: he will come to see (clearly). Then come ye (here) to me together with all your family." When the caravan left (Egypt), their father said: "I do indeed scent the presence of Joseph: Nay, think me not a dotard." They said: "By Allah. truly thou art in thine old wandering mind." Then when the bearer of the good news came, He cast (the shirt) over his face, and he forthwith regained clear sight. He said: "Did I not say to you, 'I know from Allah that which ye know not?'" [Quran 12:93-96]

The NEARNESS OF ALLAH'S APOSTLE (MAY PEACE BE UPON HIM) TO THE PEOPLE AND THEIR SEEKING BLESSINGS FROM HIM (AND HIS POSSESSIONS)

Blessing Through Hair of Prophet  صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم

Hadith

Narrated Ibn Sirrn:
I said to 'Ablda, "I have some of the hair of the Prophet which I got from Anas or from his family." 'Abida replied.
"No doubt if I had a single hair of that it would have been dearer to me than the whole world and whatever is in it."

Khalid bin Walid fighting for the Blessed hair of Prophet (Peace be Upon him)

Hadrat Safiya (ra) narrates that the cap (helmet) of Khalid bin Walid contained some (blessed) hair of Prophet (Peace be upon him), When that cap (helmet) fell in some battlefield, he started to search for it, when many Sahaba were martyred in that battle, the people strongly complained about (what he did). At this he replied: I did not try so to find just the cap, actually It contained the (blessed) hair of Prophet (Peace be upon him) and I feared that It might get into the hands of Mushrikeen and I might lose the Barakah of it [Qadhi Iyaadh in Ash-Shifa, Volume No. 1, Page No. 619]
The Small water bag of leather as a source of Blessing

‘Abd-ur-Rahmān bin Abū ‘Amrah has attributed it to his grandmother who heard it from Kabshah Ansāriyyah:
Allah’s Messenger (
صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) went over to see her and there was a small water bag of leather hanging there. He drank water from it while standing. Then she cut off the mouth of water bag on account of its blessing because the Prophet’s mouth had touched it.

Cure through the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Cloak

I went back to Asma' and informed her. whereupon she said: Here is the cloak of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him). and she brought out to me that cloak made of Persian cloth with a hem of brocade, and its sleeves bordered with brocade and said: This was Allah's Messenger's cloak with 'A'isha until she died, and when she died. Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) confirming the act to be right

Anas b. Malik reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) came to the house of Umm Sulaim and slept in her bed while she was away from her house. On the other day too he slept in her bed. She came and it was said to her: It is Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) who is having siesta in your house, lying in your bed. She came and found him sweating and his sweat falling on the leather cloth spread on her bed. She opened her scent-bag and began to fill the bottles with it. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) was startled and woke up and said: Umm Sulaim, what are you doing? She said: Allah's Messenger, we seek blessings for our children through it. Thereupon he said: You have done something right.

Blessing through the Holy Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Perspiration

Umm Sulaim reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) visited her house and (took rest) and she spread a piece of cloth for him and he had had a siesta on it. And he sweated profusely and she collected his sweat and put it in a perfume and in bottles. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: Umm Sulaim, what is this? She said: It is your sweat, which I put in my perfume. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) sweated in cold weather when revelation descended upon him.

It is narrated by Thumāmah through Anas:
That Umm Sulaym used to spread a leather mattress for the Holy Prophet (
صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) where he enjoyed his midday nap. Anas relates that when the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) woke up, I collected his perspiration and his hair, put these into a bottle and blended them with perfume. Thumāmah relates that when Anas was on the brink of dying he willed that the scent be applied to his coffin. He relates that the scent was applied to his coffin.

Order Of Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)

Narrated Abu Juhaifa:
Allah's Apostle came to us at noon and water for ablution was brought to him. After he had performed ablution, the remaining water was taken by the people and they started smearing their bodies with it (as a blessed thing). The Prophet offered two Rakat of the Zuhr prayer and then two Rakat of the 'Asr prayer while an 'Anza (spear-headed stick) was there (as a Sutra) in front of him. Abu Musa said: The Prophet asked for a tumbler containing water and washed both his hands and face in it and then threw a mouthful of water in the tumbler and said to both of us (Abu Musa and Bilal), "Drink from the tumbler and pour some of its water on your faces and chests."

and said, "O Allah's Apostle! This son of my sister has got a disease in his legs." I stood behind him and saw the seal of Prophethood between his shoulders, and it was like the "Zir-al-Hijla" (means the button of a small tent, but some said 'egg of a partridge.' etc.)

Shroud out of the clothes worn by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)

Narrated Abu Hazim:
Sahl bin Sa'd said that a woman brought a Burda (sheet) to the Prophet. Sahl asked the people, "Do you know what is a Burda?" The people replied, "It is a 'Shamla', a sheet with a fringe." That woman said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have brought it so that you may wear it." So the Prophet took it because he was in need of it and wore it. A man among his companions, seeing him wearing it, said, "O Allah's Apostle! Please give it to me to wear." The Prophet said, "Yes." (and gave him that sheet). When the Prophet left, the man was blamed by his companions who said, "It was not nice on your part to ask the Prophet for it while you know that he took it because he was in need of it, and you also know that he (the Prophet) never turns down anybody's request that he might be asked for." That man said, "I just wanted to have its blessings as the Prophet had put it on, so l hoped that I might be shrouded in it."

Blessings through the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Spittle

Part of the hadith

“…Urwa then started looking at the Companions of the Prophet. By Allah, whenever Allah's Apostle spat, the spittle would fall in the hand of one of them (i.e. the Prophet's companions) who would rub it on his face and skin; if he ordered them they would carry his orders immediately; if he performed ablution, they would struggle to take the remaining water; and when they spoke to him, they would lower their voices and would not look at his face constantly out of respect. Urwa returned to his people and said, "O people! By Allah, I have been to the kings and to Caesar, Khosrau and An-Najashi, yet I have never seen any of them respected by his courtiers as much as Muhammad is respected by his companions. By Allah, if he spat, the spittle would fall in the hand of one of them (i.e. the Prophet's companions) who would rub it on his face and skin; if he ordered them, they would carry out his order immediately; if he performed ablution, they would struggle to take the remaining water; and when they spoke, they would lower their voices and would not look at his face constantly out of respect."

Hadith

Asmā’ bint Abū Bakr says:
I (while in Makkah) was pregnant with ‘Abdullāh bin Zubayr (that is, he was in my belly). The period of pregnancy was near completion that I set out for Medina. I got down at Qubā’ and gave birth to my son (‘Abdullāh bin Zubayr) at Qubā’. Then I took him over to the Holy Prophet (
صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and placed him in his lap. He sent for a date and chewed it. Then he put his saliva into the child’s mouth, and the first thing that entered his stomach was the Prophet’s saliva. Then he applied the date to his palate, prayed for him and offered his congratulations

Hadith

‘Ā’ishah relates that the Holy Prophet (

Ibn Hajar ‘Asqalānī’s comments on the tradition are as follows:

“The Prophet’s words “from the saliva of some of us” prove that he used to apply his saliva while using a protective invocation (ruqyah) over something. Nawawī says: ‘the tradition means that the Holy Prophet (
صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) put his saliva on his forefinger and rubbed it on to the soil, then he froze it and applied it to the patient or the wound and while applying it, he recited the words of the tradition.’ Qurtubī says: ‘this tradition proves that it is valid to treat any disease by using a protective invocation over it, and it also makes it clear that it was a common and popular practice among them.’ He is also of the opinion that the Prophet’s placing of his forefinger on the soil and sprinkling it with earth justifies its relevance while blowing protective invocation through it… And, surely, it describes the mode of receiving blessings through the attributes of the Lord and the relics of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Then blowing breath laden with protective invocation into something and a divinely inspired sense of purpose and determination have amazing implications which simply stun human reason.

Blessing through the Holy Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) hand wash

Abu Musa
reported: I was in the company of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as he had been sitting in Ji'rana (a place) between Mecca and Medina and Bilal was also there, that there came to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) a desert Arab, and he said: Muhammad, fulfill your promise that you made with me. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said to him: Accept glad tidings. Thereupon the desert Arab said: You shower glad tidings upon me very much; then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) turned towards Abu Musa and Bilal seemingly in a state of annoyance and said: Verily he has rejected glad tidings but you two should accept them. We said: Allah's Messenger, we have readily accepted them. Then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) called for a cup of water and washed his hands in that and face too and put the saliva in it and then said: Drink out of it and pour it over your faces and over your chest and gladden yourselves. They took hold of the cup and did as Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had commanded them to do. Thereupon Umm Salama called from behind the veil: Spare some water in your vessel for your mother also, and they also gave some water which had been spared for her.

Blessing through the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Pulpit

Hadith

Sitting on the pulpit, the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) taught religion to his Companions. The lovers of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) were extremely fond of this pulpit and preserved it like his other relics to draw blessings from it. Qādī ‘Iyād relates:
Ibn ‘Umar was often seen touching with his hand the part of the pulpit where the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) used to sit and then rubbing his hand all over his body.

Blessing through the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Staff

‘Abdullāh bin Anīs has reported it from his father:
When I called on the Prophet (
صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم, he said to me as he saw me: “The successful face (the successful man).” He says: I said to him: O Messenger of Allah, I have killed him (Khālid bin Sufyān). He said: You have spoken out the truth. Then the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) stood up beside me and went to his house and blessed me with his staff and said: O ‘Abdullāh bin Anīs! Keep it with you. When I came out carrying the staff, the people asked me: what is this (staff)? He replied: this has been given to me by the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and he has commanded me to keep it. The people said: won’t you return it to the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)? Ask the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) about it. ‘Abdullāh bin Anīs says that I called on the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and asked him: O Messenger of Allah! why have you given this staff to me? He replied: on the Day of Judgement this will serve as a mark of recognition between us when few people will cooperate with others. ‘Abdullāh bin Anīs tied the staff to his sword and always kept it with himself until he passed away. He had willed about the staff that it should be placed in his coffin, so we buried them together.

Hadith

Anas bin Mālik has reported:
That he had a short stick given to him by the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). When he died, it (the stick) was buried with him, between his shirt and the side of his body.

Qādī ‘Iyād relates in as-Shifā (2:621):
Jahjāhā al-Ghifārī snatched the Prophet’s staff from ‘Uthmān’s hand, placed it on his knee and made a sacrilegious effort to break it. But people stalled him in his tracks by protesting, but (he was punished by the unknown for this act), a boil broke out on his knee which turned into a running sore. As a result, his leg was amputated and he died the same year.

Paradise Jannah lies under the feet of our mothers,
so what then of the treasures beneath the feet of Allah’s Beloved?

Divine Throne

[...]

The Holy Prophet {S} continues his account:
“When I reached to the Divine Throne, I wished to remove my sandals, but the Throne spoke to me and said,

‘Oh Beloved of Allah r, step upon me with your blessed sandal, so that I might rub the dust from it on my face, and take pride in the fact that the dust from the sandal of the Beloved of Allah r has fallen upon me.’

Again I tried to remove my sandals, but this time a call came to me from the Divine Person, saying,

‘Oh My Beloved, do not remove your sandals so that My Throne might be honored and blessed with the dust from the soles of your sandals.’

I then entreated my Lord, saying,
When You called the Prophet Musa to come to the mountain of Tur (Sina’i),
You ordered him to remove his sandals.’

Again this word came to me from the Divine Person, saying,
‘In My view, you are more cherished and honored than he; Musa was My Word (Kalimullah), whereas you are My Beloved (Habibullah).

[...]

When the secret of that, which the mind is incapable of grasping, was revealed to the Holy Prophet {S} in this Holy Verse of the Quran:
He stood poised, being on the higher horizon, then drew near and suspended hung, two bows’-length away, or nearer, then revealed to His servant that He revealed. His heart lies not of what he saw; what, will you dispute with him what he sees?

                                                                                (The Star, 6-12)

He, the Almighty, addressed him in the following words:
“Draw nearer to Me, oh you Best of all Mankind! Draw nigh, oh Ahmad, oh Muhammad, so that The Friend may be in intimate association with His friend!”
In this way, the Holy Prophet {S} was granted the unmediated vision of the Sublime Beauty of He who is beyond all space and time, free from all conditions or qualities, the Unmitigated Principal of all things.
This is the avowed preference of the Ahl as-Sunna wal-Jama’ah (People of the Sunnah of Prophet {S} and the Majority).
